Over the course of my faith journey, there have been times when God was loud. There was no denying that it was indeed His voice that spoke so vividly through the noise around me. But much like Elijah in 1 Kings 19, he expected God in the wind, earthquake, and the fire, but instead, God spoke in a gentle whisper. I have spent a lot of my life “waiting” and “expecting” God to show up and speak how He spoke in the past. But Isaiah 43:19 says, “see, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?” To me, this passage reveals important truths about God’s character:
God is always faithful, but He is not limited to old methods.
He often works in fresh ways for new seasons.
Sometimes we miss what God is doing now because we’re focused on what He did in the past.
Some of us may be waiting for God to move the same ways He did before. But God says He’s doing a new thing. I want to encourage us to not miss out on today’s word because we’re only looking at yesterdays miracle. God is breathing new life into new seasons. He has something new to speak to us. Not because His truth changes, but because He knows exactly what we need for today. The great thing about God is that He doesn’t just ask us to listen-He transforms us so that we can hear, follow, and walk in step with His Spirit. But we have to make the decision to leave the noise behind and open our hearts to the fresh new ways that God has been longing to speak.
I have undeniably had moments when God whispers something so deep into my spirit that I simply could not ignore it; and there was NO question that it was Him. It won’t always make sense. It almost never feels convenient. Most of the time, it will leave you feeling completely inadequate. Yet somehow, beneath the fear, the questions, and the uncertainty, there’s an undeniable peace that reminds you this isn’t your idea-it’s His.
Looking back over the past year, I can see how God has been gently leading me, one obedient step at a time, from a simple “yes” to something far greater than I ever imagined. My story isn’t just a story about building a ministry or planning Ladies Fellowship Nights. It’s a story about answering God’s call, trusting Him when I couldn’t see the whole picture, and discovering that He doesn’t call the qualified-He qualifies those who are willing. Because sometimes, even though we are CALLED by God, we aren’t willing. For a long time, I wasn’t willing. I let those things I mentioned above (fear, questions, and uncertainty…the list of excuses could go on for days) hinder me from the things God was calling me to do. As I like to say, I know what happens when you’re not obedient to God but I also know what happens when you are. We have a choice!
